Does anyone else think this is fucked up?

I applied for a job as a part-time assistant to an editorial photographer in Los Angeles. This is what happened:

INITIAL RESPONSE TO COVER LETTER - JULY 20 :

"Hi Lacey,

We reviewed your resume and would like to meet with you for an interview.
Please let me know what your schedule looks like for next week. Most
likely we will be doing the interviews on Thursday & Friday. We are pretty
flexible, so just let me know what works best for you."

I COME IN FOR AN INTERVIEW THE FOLLOWING FRIDAY. THEY GIVE ME A TEST IMAGE TO RETOUCH AND E-MAIL BACK TO THEM. THEIR RESPONSE - JULY 31ST :

"Hi Lacey,

Thanks for the follow up. We did get your image. We have narrowed it down to three of you. We were hoping to get you in here on Friday as a trial day to see how you work with us. Can you be in here at 10:30? Hope you are having a good week."

I WORK A 9 HOUR TEST DAY ON FRIDAY. THEY TELL ME THEY WILL MAKE THEIR DECISION THE FOLLOWING WEEK. WHEN THEY NEVER CONTACT ME, I INQUIRE ABOUT THE JOB. THEIR RESPONSE - AUG 13 :

"Hi Lacey,

Kevin left for New Zealand today. We will be making our final
decision on Wednesday of next week. Sorry to keep you hanging,
but he's leaving again and we haven't had time to discuss.

I'll let you know as soon as I know. : )"

TODAY (WEDNESDAY) I E-MAIL THEM TO ASK IF THEY HAVE MADE A DECISION. THIS WAS THE RESPONSE :

"Thanks for the follow up! We have not. Kevin just got back last night from New Zealand and we have one more girl coming in tomorrow. We will let you know Monday. Sorry this is dragging out so long. Thanks for your patience. : )"

I didn't get the internship in London. Apparently after spending three hundred dollars overnighting documents and paying for a British passport, they decided they don't "want an intern in London anymore"...

Something tells me I didn't want to work for these people anyway. And at least I'm European now.

Food for Thought

Philospher St. Thomas Aquinas (1225-1274) on just war...

"A tyrannical government is not just, because it is directed, not to the common good, but to the private good of the ruler. Consequently there is no sedition in disturbing a government of this kind, unless the tyrant's rule be disturbed so inordinately that his subjects suffer greater harm from the consequent disturbance than from the tyrant's government."

Today's news...

"America has now killed more Iraqi civilians than Saddam. A new study asserts that roughly 600,000 Iraqis have died from violence since the U.S.-led invasion in March 2003, a figure many times higher than any previous estimate. Human Rights Watch has estimated Saddam Hussein's regime killed 250,000 to 290,000 people over 20 years."

An entry at last

I just had to share this...

I was sitting in my Politics of the Third World class yesterday, and I happened to be positioned next to a deaf student (for those of you who don't know, "National Technical Institute for the Deaf" is also at RIT). This particular student didn't have his own sign language interpreter. Instead he had a laptop which sat on his desk which some sort of "deaf typing specialist" is supposed to translate onto via another laptop in the back of the room. So, it is this woman's job to ensure that she types everything the professor says, so that the deaf student is able to LEARN. I copied this from his screen...

[REAL] Professor: On the radio I heard a peice done about Dubai.
[SCREEN] Professor: On the radio I heard someone had been to Tabi.

[REAL] Female Student: Yeah, I have a friend who goes to school here from Dubai.
[SCREEN] Female Student: I have a friend who is a soldier there.

I'm glad he's getting his $30,000 worth.

It seems as though things are finally over with RJ

He seems un-phased. I feel numb.

So, I went on a free Trans-Atlantic cruise with a bunch of wealthy Scandinavians...

It was not your typical "Carnival Cruise"... Supposedly it's the finest cruise money can buy. Therefore it was full of very old rich people and caviar. It was so fancy, in fact, that they put the dinner napkins into your lap FOR you. Now that is a pretty sad statement. Since I was the only girl on the ship between the ages of 16 and 30, I was relentlessly hit on by members of the crew... Like Marcel, the 34 year old, Phillipino violinist who serenaded me off the back of the ship at one in the morning.

There was also a Norwegian guy named Torstein who was distantly part of our "group". He was a nice guy... when he wasn't being an alcoholic...

To get right down to it... I just miss RJ
